Hermanos Peciña Rioja Reserva 2016
The 2016 vintage is considered one of the finest in recent memory for Rioja, known for producing wines with brilliant balance, concentration, and freshness - qualities perfectly harnessed by the traditional approach of Bodegas Hermanos Peciña. This Reserva is a true expression of their philosophy, showcasing why patience and gentle ageing yield wines of such profound character. The wine is elaborated from the finest Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano grapes grown on Peciña's own vineyards in San Vicente de la sonsierra. The wine matured for 36 months in used American oak barrels and during this time it was racked (once every 6 months) by means of the traditional method, “barrel to barrel”, achieving a natural decantation. The wine is then bottled unfined and unfiltered. After being in bottle for a minimum of 18 months, the wine finds its balance and it is ready for consumption. The nose displays seductive aromas of dried red cherry, balsamic notes, worn leather, cigar box, and sweet spice (dill, vanilla) from the long tenure in American oak. On the palate it is the texture which is the standout feature: velvety, silky, and seamless. The flavours echo the nose, moving from dried fruit to savoury secondary notes, concluding with a very long, refined finish. This wine is drinking beautifully now after its bottle age but has the backbone to reward patient cellaring for another decade.
