Viñedo Chadwick | Maipo Valley

Polo Goal Posts on the estate of Viñedo Chadwick

Vińedo Chadwick represents the Chadwick family's long cherished desire to honour the memory of Eduardo's father, the late Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz. The estate is located in Puento Alto, along the northern bank of the Maipo river at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. It is situated in one of the best areas of the Maipo Valley for growing exceptional quality fruit.

Besides running the family winery, Don Alfonso was a Chilean Polo Champion and he would practise his sport on the estate's Polo Field. In the spring of 1992 the polo field was planted with a selection of the best clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. The total 15 hectares is planted on soils of clay loam over a stone filled riverbed of alluvial origin. Yields are kept extremely low and at harvest the various blocks are hand-harvested separately and at different times. The aim at Viñedo Chadwick is to make an elegant wine with freshness and purity, showcasing the Maipo Valley at its highest level.

Viñedo Chadwick's second vintage made history in 2004, when the Berlin Tasting took place. The 2000 vintage of Viñedo Chadwick was placed first by an international jury, comprised of many of Europe's top wine writers, ahead of the most expensive and reputed wines of the Old World. This landmark tasting proved the quality and potential of this fine wine and has been repeated with similar results as far afield as Japan, Canada and Brazil.

Almost 20 years later, Eduardo Chadwick continues to pioneer the image of fine Chilean wine worldwide. A landmark year for Errazuriz was had in 2016 when renowned wine critic James Suckling awarded Viñedo Chadwick 2014 a perfect 100 points for this vintage, becoming the first Chilean wine to achieve this accolade.
