Musella Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva 2018
The Musella Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva is a biodynamic red wine made from a blend of native Valpolicella grapes; Corvina (50%) Corvinone (35%), Rondinella (5%) and Oseleta (10%). The bunches, selected and collected in crates, are placed in a special ventilated room to be dried according to the famous drying process (Appassimento). The grapes loose at least 35% of their original weight, thus concentrating sugars, aromatic components and noble tannins. In the following January, the soft pressing takes place and the fermentation starts and a long maceration allows maximum extraction of the fruit. The wine remains for 24 months in French oak tonneaux and in larger barrels (3500 and 5000 liters); after bottling, it remains to refine at least a year before being released. The nose displays aromas of dried fruits, including plum and black cherry, complemented by sweet spices like cinnamon and hints of herbs and tobacco. This is a bold, full-bodied wine that is opulent yet harmonious on the palate, with deep, concentrated fruit flavors. Layers of dark cherry, plum, and bitter chocolate are present, along with a pleasant tanginess. It has a smooth, velvety texture and a long, lingering finish.
