Vietti Barolo Lazzarito 2019
The Nebbiolo grapes for this Vietti Barolo come from two hectares of estate vines in the Barolo Cru of "Lazzarito" in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, a fabulous amphitheater-shaped plot with a south-western exposure. Serralunga d’Alba is the furthest east of the Barolo communes, where the soil is rich in limestone and clay, these soils are some of the oldest in the region, poor, un-fertile and white calcareous, which brings saline minerality and tension to the wine. At the winery the grapes were gently pressed, malolactic conversion took place in oak and the wine was matured for 30 months in Slavonian and French oak casks. It was bottled without filtration. The Vietti Barolo Lazzarito is a powerful wine with alluring aromas of herbaceous tones, tobacco, and pepper through to a robust palate with profound tannins and a taut minerality leading to a persistent finish.
