Contino is C.V.N.E's pioneering 62ha estate located on the banks of the Ebro n 1973 Contino became the first single estate Rioja. The name Contino refers to the Royal Guard of 100 soldiers who continually - 'de contino' - guarded the King. In 1973, inspired by the concept of the 'Bordeaux Château', Contino became the first single estate Rioja. The Contino Rioja Viña del Olivio is a great wine made from a small parcel of old Tempranillo and Graciano vines that surround an 800 year old olive tree on the Contino Estate. The wine is aged for 17 months in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels, each adding complexity and its own nuance to the wine. Viña del Olivo displays great aromas of fruit with an elegant complexity and richness of tannins, highlighting the spicy hints in perfect balance with the fruity nuances. Touches of red fruit and balsamic notes like anise, mint or liquorice. The palate has great structure, rounded, with tannins of mature fruit and high quality barrels. It is a well balanced complex wine o great power and concentration.
