Henschke Johann's Garden Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2018

Henschke's Johann's Garden is named as a tribute to the early German Silesian pioneers of the Barossa Valley, many of whom carried the first name of Johann. And also the Barossa growers traditionally referred to their vineyard as their ‘garden’, from the German weingarten. Their traditions and culture have survived to this day, including the winemaking techniques used in this red wine blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. Each parcel of fruit is hand picked separately and remains so throughout the vinification process. Once in the winery, the best grapes are de-stemmed and lightly crushed, either into small concrete or stainless steel open-top fermenters. The primary fermentation is finished in seasoned French oak barriques and hogshead barrels. The wine matured for 10 months before blending and bottling. Johann's Garden displays bright, lifted aromas of redcurrant, rose-hip and raspberry developing into concentrated baked plum pudding with spicy notes. The soft, luscious palate is complemented by complex flavours of spiced berry compote, raspberry and red liquorice. An elegant style with fine, velvety tannins and balanced acidity.

Delivery Times

We aim to to have your delivery with you within 5-7 working days of receiving your order, but often it can be much sooner. If you need your order by a certain date please get in touch and we'll do our best to get it to you as required.

Vintage Availability

We endeavour to display accurate and current vintages on all our wines listed on the website; however, from time to time stocks of the vintage listed do become exhausted. If this is the case with your order we will always contact you to recommend another vintage of the same wine, if it is still available. If the vintage of a wine is important to you then please leave a note at checkout advising us of this.

Stock Availability

As we are retail stockists, selling from our Ledston shop as well as online, it makes it difficult for us to show a 'real-time' inventory of our wines and spirits online. As such, very occasionally, a wine may be out of stock that the website has allowed you to order.

To ensure a timely delivery, we are happy to substitute your order with a similar wine of equal or higher value and at no additional cost to you!

If this is not an acceptable solution please advise us in the 'Add A Comment' section at the checkout.

The Producer Henschke | Barossa Valley

The Henschke family is one of the longest-established wine names in the Barossa. Johann Christian Henschke purchased land for a farm at Keyneton in 1861 and planted a small vineyard and orchard, and produced his first commercial vintage in 1868.  His son, Paul Gotthard, continued farming and winemaking and planted...

Henschke delivers the goods!

Henschke are consistently accomplished blenders of distinctive grape types, and can be relied on to deliver a five star blend. The wine needs to breathe before drinking, to let the nose and flavour evolve, and you will get a multi layered red and black fruit essence on the nose. The taste is complex berries with what I perceive as mineral tannins. A sort of soft grainy fruit on the tongue with a lingering aftertaste. If you love rich layered Australian reds, they don't get better than this.
