Finca Montepedroso Verdejo 2022
Montepedroso or “Mountain of stones” is named after the stony soils in the vineyard upon which the Verdejo grapes for this wine are grown. Familia Martínez Bujanda cultivates the Verdejo grape exclusively at Finca Montepedroso, with the sole aim of producing one of the best wines of the Rueda region. With a yield much lower than allowed by the DO, the winery only elaborates one single wine. Grape harvest takes place at night in order to reduce, as much as is possible, the oxidisation time of the grapes and to insure they are received at the winery as fresh as possible. The Verdejo grapes are fermented by native yeast at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatics, acidity and freshness. It is then aged sur-lie for five months with weekly batonnage to provide additional depth and complexity. Bright lemon yellow in colour the wine displays intensely aromatic notes of apricot and peach, fennel, and ripe fruits. Some notes of fresh cut hay, and light smoke touches mixed with mineral notes. The palate opens velvety and silky developing into great volume and structure. The balanced acidity gives freshness and nerve that leads onto a long and tasty, fruity aftertaste. If you're looking for a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc then this is one to try!
