Greece can be considered neither new nor old, but part of the ancient world, with evidence of wine production dating back 6,500 years. In the ancient world, Greece was once one of the foremost producers of wine. However, in contrast to the country’s important wine heritage, modern Greek wines are only just now emerging in the rest of the world, but are going from strength to strength as more people are discovering their indigenous grape varieties are far nicer to drink than they are to pronounce!
Greece offers outstanding value for its wines and there are many new varieties that will certainly expand your palate. Indigenous grapes such as Assyritko, native to Santorini, create white wines that are bone dry, with hints of smoke saltiness and minerals.
