Jane Eyre Tasmania Pinot Noir 2021
Jane Eyre sources her Pinot Noir grapes for this wine from two vineyards on Tasmania's northern coast. Two thirds come from the iron-rich soils of Tamar Valley, a region which runs along the Tamar River. The final third is sourced from Pipers River, Tasmania’s northernmost wine region which surrounds the much smaller river of the same name, roughly 20 kilometres to the north-east. After picking, most of the grapes were destemmed, with 10% being left as whole bunches. The fruit was cold soaked and gently macerated for 10 days before being basket pressed direct into 500-litre French oak puncheons (17% new). The wine matured for 10 months and was lightly filtered prior to bottling. Bright crimson in colour, this Pinot Noir has beautifully pure red fruit aromas, with a little pomegranate and a touch of spice. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied and has a good depth of fruit that is balanced by a fresh acidity. The finish is long, with fine, persistent tannins.
