Kleine Zalze Project Z Riesling 2021
Each Kleine Zalze Project Z wine is a singular expression of extraordinary grapes coupled with ever evolving winemaking techniques. The result is an eclectic collection of precious and distinctive wines, produced in very limited quantities. The cool-climate Elgin region provides the fruit for this riveting Project Z Riesling, which displays a steely edge alongside a ripe fruit-core. Grapes were whole bunch pressed to ensure purity of juice, after which fermentation ensued in clay amphorae, where the wine was also aged for 9 months. Chiselled and taut, with upfront aromas of lime and green apple, the low pH provides potential for this wine to age exceptionally well. The acidity will mellow over time to reveal a generous palate laden with typical Riesling aromas of honeysuckle, pear, and beeswax.
