Champagne Philipponnat 1522 Cuvée Blanc Grand Cru 2018
The 1522 Cuvée is Philipponnat's flagship vintage Champagne, representing the pinnacle of their terroir and winemaking mastery. It is named for the year the Philipponnat family established themselves in the region, reflecting the house's profound historical roots. This vintage is an assemblage of Pinot Noir (72%), providing structure and depth, balanced by Chardonnay (28%) for elegance and finesse. The Pinot Noir comes exclusively from the historic Le Léon vineyard in Ay whilst the Chardonnay comes from the village of Oger. This is a vinous, powerful, and concentrated Champagne, built for food and the cellar. Intense golden yellow in colour with extremely fine bubbles, the 1522 Cuvée Blanc Grand Cru displays rich aromas of citrus marmalade, baked apple, toasted almonds, vanilla, and chalky minerality. The palate is broad and structured with noticeable concentration and defined by its chalky, dry texture and a long, profoundly complex finish typical of great Grand Cru Pinot Noir. Due to its structure and power, the 1522 Cuvée Blanc pairs beautifully with luxurious dishes, including foie gras, white truffles, aged Comte cheese, or roasted capon. This is a rare, powerful, and deeply complex expression designed to be cellared and enjoyed for decades.
