La Rioja Alta S.A. Gran Reserva 890 Selección Especial 2010
The La Rioja Alta S.A. Gran Reserva 890 Selección Especial is the flagship wine of La Rioja Alta S.A. The 2010 is one of the most heralded vintages of recent times and the first Gran Reserva 890 vintage that has been made after the legendary 2005 vintage. It combines Tempranillo (95%), Graciano (3%) and Mazuelo (2%) grapes from the estates own vineyards. The Tempranillo and Mazuelo grapes were blended in the vineyard and fermented together whilst the Graciano was handled separately. After letting the wine stabilise for the winter, they selected the best batches which were then left to age for six years in used American oak barrels with ten manual rackings. To preserve its aromas the wine was not filtered before bottling. The nose reveals the classic characteristics of fine Rioja; cherry jam, black plum compote, cinnamon, vanilla, black pepper and chocolate powder.The refined tannins and its gentle freshness lend an elegant and pleasant mouthfeel to the wine. Classic Rioja bouquet, broad, complex and round with an elegant finish, this Gran Reserva 890 has a long life ahead of it.
