La Valentina Spelt Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 2019
La Valentina's 'Spelt' Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva is an award winning (Tre Bicchieri - Gambero Rosso) red wine made from 100% Montepulciano grapes. The fruit is sourced from fifteen hectares of vineyards with some vines now over 40 years old. After fermentation the wine spends 16 months part in a combination of new and second-fill large Slavonian oak barrels, barriques and tonneaux. After the final blend is assembled the wine is refined further with a couple of months in 25 hl oak Slavonian barrels and almost a year in bottle. Spelt is a complex and well structured Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva perfect with some bottle age. Deep and intense red in colour it offers up aromas of wild rose, violets, crisp red currants and liquorice. The palate is voluptuous and velvety with polished tannins and superb length. Perfect served with roast lamb chops, grilled meats and pasta dishes with ragù sauce.
