Prunus Dão Tinto 2020

The Dão region is one of the oldest and one of the most complex regions of Portugal. The only one with thick layer of snow during the winter. On the hills of the highest Portuguese mountain Serra de Estrela the vines fight with frost or with baking sun. As an effect Prunus delivers personality, elegance, freshness and softness. The indigenous grapes give aromas and flavours that captivate and seduce and become unmistakable and unforgettable. Yet, the Dão is not only famous for its elegant wines, but also for its succulent and sweet Cova da Beira cherries. These plump and juicy fruits are so revered that entire festivals are created in their honour, which is why this wine has been created with equal expression. Perfect for picnics, Prunus Tinto is light, elegant and reminiscent of these beloved red cherries. A blend of Jaen (80%), Tinta Roriz (10%), Alfrocheiro Preto (5%) and Touriga Nacional (5%) the wine spends 6 months ageing in 225 litre old French and Portuguese oak barrels followed by minimum of 6 months in the bottle prior to release. The finished wine offers elegance on a grand scale. Lightly oaked and perfectly balanced, with a silky texture and crisp edge. The nose is cram-packed with plums, mulberries, blackberries and anise. On the palate, black cherry and raspberry fruit tones with creamy and chocolaty oak flavours. Delicious with poultry and pork dishes.

Shipping Costs

Delivery is FREE on all orders over £165.00 to most UK Postcodes. Orders under £165.00 incur a £12.50 delivery charge. Our preferred courier is DPD and they charge us extra to deliver to certain postcodes in the Scottish Highlands & Islands.

If you live in one of these restricted postcode delivery areas the delivery charge is £20 for orders under £165.00. Orders £165 to £249 are subject to a £10 delivery charge. Orders over £250 are delivered FREE. If you are happy to proceed with an order including the stated delivery charges we will raise a separate invoice for the additional cost and email it to you. Find out more on our Delivery Page

Delivery Times

We aim to to have your delivery with you within 5-7 working days of receiving your order, but often it can be much sooner. If you need your order by a certain date please get in touch and we'll do our best to get it to you as required.

Vintage Availability

We endeavour to display accurate and current vintages on all our wines listed on the website; however, from time to time stocks of the vintage listed do become exhausted. If this is the case with your order we will always contact you to recommend another vintage of the same wine, if it is still available. If the vintage of a wine is important to you then please leave a note at checkout advising us of this.

Stock Availability

As we are retail stockists, selling from our Ledston shop as well as online, it makes it difficult for us to show a 'real-time' inventory of our wines and spirits online. As such, very occasionally, a wine may be out of stock that the website has allowed you to order.

To ensure a timely delivery, we are happy to substitute your order with a similar wine of equal or higher value and at no additional cost to you!

If this is not an acceptable solution please advise us in the 'Add A Comment' section at the checkout.

Organic Vines in Vineyard

It is estimated that there are more than 10,000 grape varieties in present commercial production, yet this probably includes the same grapes under other names. With the increase of DNA fingerprinting it is thought that the real number might come down closer to 5,000.

Great discovery

Just received my first order from Hic having decided to switch to a smaller wine merchant and I'm delighted. The case of mixed reds is a great selection from a variety of countries and the ones we've tried so far are spot on. I also ordered 6 bottles of my favourite Portuguese wine Prunus Dao Tinto and wasn't disappointed. Well priced, good quality wine from a team who clearly know their stuff.

Love Portuguese Prunus red

I first discovered Prunus at a local restaurant 3 or so years ago and loved it. It paired very nicely with food and was ‘easy drinking’ - at a great price.
It has since disappeared from the restaurant so I was thrilled to find it online at Hic! And at the same price I’d bought it 3 years before. I ordered a case (6 bottles) and will have to buy another one soon! Highly recommended.

Fruity, dry and delicious

This wine is packed with the aroma and flavour of bursting berries. It's so smooth to drink and excellent value for money. Definitely fights and delivers above its weight. Great with food or simply linger over a glass (or two) on its own.
