Pierro L.T.C.

In 1979 Mike Peterkin produced Australia’s first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc white wine blend. Working at Cullen’s at the time, the wine went on to win a trophy at the Perth Royal Show. In 1980 he was so convinced of the blend’s potential in Margaret River he devoted a third of the Pierro plantings to the varieties. Les Trois Cuvees was the original name for the wine, which those in the trade knew as the L.T.C. A few years later the French started dropping atom bombs in the pacific and anything that contained a connotation to being associated with the French was dead in the water. So the name was changed to Pierro Semillon Sauvigon Blanc. But people kept asking about where the 'L.T.C.' had gone. So, the name was changed to Semillon Sauvignon Blanc L.T.C. Although the name L.T.C. originally stood for 'Les Trois Cuvees', over time at the cellar door numerous guests postulated on what L.T.C. was an acronym for. One day in summer a lady arrived and asked whether L.T.C. stood for "a Little Touch of Chardonnay' and the staff member serving replied with "well yes, I guess it does". Moving forward 15 years and L.T.C. standing for a little touch of Chardonnay had stuck. So much that most people drinking it just called it by the letters. The varietal composition of the blend contains Semillon (50%) which gives the wine the ability to mature gracefully, Sauvignon Blanc (43%) to provide the delicate perfumed aroma and youthful fresh flavour and Chardonnay (7%) which completes the wine providing body power. L.T.C. is a light dry wine, delicious when young but has the capacity and backbone to mature and develop in the bottle. Flavours of citrus, pear, green apple, melon and tropical fruit. Fresh, crisp and dry with both complexity and elegance. An ideal accompaniment to seafood and white meat dishes.
