Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey
This Heaven Hill Distillery original is named for the famed Bernheim Distillery located in Louisville. While the rest of Kentucky was shouting about corn and rye, Heaven Hill did something quietly rebellious. They looked back to the pre-Prohibition era and revived a forgotten art form: Straight Wheat Whiskey. As the first of its kind, Bernheim Original doesn’t just sit on the shelf; it commands the room with a softer, more architectural grace than its bourbon cousins. Named after the legendary Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, this is a whiskey of immense substance. Aged for seven years, the 51% winter wheat mash bill strips away the aggressive "burn" of rye, replacing it with a creamy, bakery-fresh complexity. On the nose there is a welcoming invitation of buttery toffee, honeyed toast, and hints of dried summer berries. On the palate expect a wash of vanilla bean and light citrus, wrapped in a texture so smooth it feels almost intentional. To finish a lingering, sophisticated warmth with a playful wink of toasted oak.
