Los Vascos Cromas Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2019
Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite acquired Viña Los Vascos in 1988 with the goal of turning the expansive vineyard of Los Vascos into a rich ecosystem and producing the most elegant Chilean wines possible. The new Cromas Gran Reserva range represents a slightly richer and juicer style of wine, compared to the restrained and elegant style that is a common trait in the wines of DBR Lafite. The blend for this vintage of Cromas Gran Reserva consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), Syrah (10%) and Carmenere (5%) which have all been selected from plots located in the foothills of Santa Lucia, where they benefit from optimal exposure and light intensity. The wine is matured in French oak (50% new) for 12 months which provides a beautiful richness of texture and subtle spice to the wine. Intense ruby red in colour the initial nose displays aromas of fresh strawberries, red cherries, gooseberries and blue flowers. A few moments later the notes of bay leaf, tobacco, caramel and graphite come to the fore. The palate is full with soft but lively tannins, leading to a long and persistent finish.
