Montes Folly Syrah 2020
The Syrah grapes for Montes Folly are sourced from a single parcel on the highest, steepest slopes of Apalta's 'Finca Apalta', arguably one of the finest sites for red wine grape growing in Chile. The grapes underwent a meticulous dual sorting process in the winery, once by machine using camera 'eyes' to reject less than perfect grapes, and once by hand. Only perfect berries made the final cut for this wine. After malolactic fermentation, 70% of the wine was aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months. On the nose, the wine shows great potency and complexity of aromas, ranging from ripe red and black fruit to black pepper, nutmeg, candy, and leather; leading to the aromas acquired after 18 months in French oak barrels, including tobacco, toast, vanilla, and liqueur. The palate is equally broad and balanced, with big body and a silky sensation that remains for a long, pleasing finish.
