Oenops Vidiano 2022

Grapes for the Oenops Vidiano are sourced from old vineyards in the mountainous area of Heraklion in Crete. At 600 metres above sea-level the diurnal temperature differences influence the vines, with the warm summer days building concentrated flavours and then when the evening temperatures drop, the refreshing natural acidity accumulates in the grapes, resulting in wines of great balance. The grapes are hand-harvested during the cool of the night and transported by a refrigerated truck, via a ferry, to the winery. Once at the winery, slow spontaneous fermentation took place with wild yeasts, in four different types of vessels, made from four different elements: clay amphorae, concrete tanks, 600-litre large barrels and stainless steel tanks, imbuing the wine with impressive complexity and depth. To make this wine, no less than 18 different vinifications took place. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was aged for six to nine months in amphorae and concrete tanks, in order to preserve the purity of fruit, with a small percentage in old, large barrels. The wine was bottled unfiltered to retain its purity and elegance. This is quintessential Vidiano with abundant citrus notes and white floral, herbal and mineral overtones. Creamy and layered with a lively freshness and flavours of stone fruit, lime and subtle spice.

Delivery Times

We aim to to have your delivery with you within 5-7 working days of receiving your order, but often it can be much sooner. If you need your order by a certain date please get in touch and we'll do our best to get it to you as required.

Vintage Availability

We endeavour to display accurate and current vintages on all our wines listed on the website; however, from time to time stocks of the vintage listed do become exhausted. If this is the case with your order we will always contact you to recommend another vintage of the same wine, if it is still available. If the vintage of a wine is important to you then please leave a note at checkout advising us of this.

Stock Availability

As we are retail stockists, selling from our Ledston shop as well as online, it makes it difficult for us to show a 'real-time' inventory of our wines and spirits online. As such, very occasionally, a wine may be out of stock that the website has allowed you to order.

To ensure a timely delivery, we are happy to substitute your order with a similar wine of equal or higher value and at no additional cost to you!

If this is not an acceptable solution please advise us in the 'Add A Comment' section at the checkout.

Delighted to find a varietal vidiano

Discovered this grape variety on holiday in Crete in May and delighted to discover two excellent versions by Hic Wine. The Lyrirakis is full blown Cretan whilst the Oenops is produced on mainland Greece from grapes sourced from Crete. Both refreshing, fruity with subtle herbs and minerality. You must decide if the Oenops justifies its premium.
