Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No.1 2016
The Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No.1 is a classic claret-style red wine and is the blend on which Yarra Yering’s reputation was built. Always medium-bodied and low in alcohol suggesting delicacy, but nonetheless is a sleeping powerhouse of precision, intensity and concentration that demands a requisite amount of time in bottle to unfurl and allow the drinker in. Principally, the blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) with Merlot (16%), Malbec (15%) and a little Petit Verdot (3%) added to the mix. Aged for 15 months in French oak barriques (40% new) the wine is bottled via gravity and without filtration. Stylish, lifted nose settling into itself after a few years in bottle. A medium-bodied “classic” Bordeaux style featuring a fleshy, fruit-layered palate integrated with earthy complexity. In true Yarra Yering tradition, it combines power with poise, concentration with finesse. This is a wine for the long haul that will reward patience with abundance.
