I drink quite alot of Italian merlot. I usually spend between £7 - £10 per bottle, for which you get standard fayre. Well rounded, fruity medium bodied merlot grape, which goes goes down easily & is very agreeable.
Cecilia Beretta Merlot Trevenezie is different.
If drank straight after pouring from the bottle it tastes quite tight and closed but still with plenty of fruit & a unique aftertaste.
It softens a little if left to breath. It has a pleasing complexity which I haven't found in other Venetian merlots.
The wine is better with food than without. I enjoyed a glass with a mushroom pizza.
This is not my favourite Italian merlot & I may never it again, but I would recommend it because it is unusual, memorable & if you enjoy Italian red wine as much as I do, that's a good enough reason to call in at Hic wines, have a chat with the very knowledgeable Mr Saxon & pick up a bottle.
