Cuilleron Saint-Joseph Les Pierres Sèches 2021
Yves Cuilleron took over the reins as the 4th generation vigneron in 1987. He is based in Chavanay, just south of Condrieu. He has around 75 hectares in total split across Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, white Saint-Joseph, red Saint-Joseph, white Crozes Hermitage, red Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Péray, Cornas and IGP (PGI). He also has a fantastic new, purpose-built and temperature controlled cellar. The Saint-Joseph Pierres Sèches is 100% Syrah that takes its name from the stone walls built without cement, to consolidate the terraced vineyards on hillside. In the vineyard treatments are limited as much as possible depending on the weather, no pesticides to preserve biodiversity and only organic fertilisers are used. Matured for 16 months in barrel this is a fresh and precise Syrah. The nose is crunchy with juicy and tangy red fruits, the pepper notes remind of the typicality of Syrah. The palate is seductive and balanced, the fruit expresses freshness and deliciousness. A Saint-Joseph of pleasure to drink on the aromas of youth or on the evolution from 5 years.
