Montes Folly Syrah 2019
The Syrah grapes for Montes Folly are sourced from a single parcel on the highest, steepest slopes of Apalta's 'Finca Apalta', arguably one of the finest sites for red wine grape growing in Chile. The grapes underwent a meticulous dual sorting process in the winery, once by machine using camera 'eyes' to reject less than perfect grapes, and once by hand. Only perfect berries made the final cut for this wine. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels, 80% new and 20% second-use, for 18 months before being blended in tank, gently membrane filtered and bottled. This new vintage of Montes Folly, maintains the depth of colour and violet rim very characteristic of Syrah. The nose shows very ripe fruit, such as cherry, blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry, with characteristic and intense aromas of sweet spice and candy. There’s a very balanced element of toast from the French oak, adding complexity to the aromatic profile. On the palate the wine is balanced, with impressive body and a very long finish. Montes Folly has been awarded as the best Syrah in Chile.
