Amaro Lucano Anniversario
The Amaro Lucano Anniversario expression elevates the traditional Lucano recipe by bottling it at a higher proof (34% ABV), which concentrates the flavors and results in a drier, more complex digestivo. Deep, almost opaque mahogany in colour with dark, cola-like hues. It has a slightly viscous texture in the glass, suggesting its density. The nose is highly aromatic and the higher proof lifts the volatile compounds, making the nose very expressive. There are pronounced liquorice root, concentrated burnt orange peel, and savory baking spices like nutmeg and allspice. Beneath the primary notes, there are clear hints of dried fruit (dates and figs) and an earthy medicinal quality from the cinchona bark and gentian root. The palate is much denser and more serious than the classic bottling, with less immediate sweetness. It has a velvety, almost oily mouthfeel. The flavour shifts immediately to the savory and bitter elements. Expect a deep core of dark chocolate, cola nut and rich, caramelized citrus. The herbal blend is more tightly integrated, tasting like highly concentrated herbal tea with a significant, structural bitterness that is not aggressive but persistent. The higher proof provides a noticeable warmth and structure without tasting hot. The finish is very long and elegant yet distinctly drier than the standard Lucano. The lingering sensation is of sophisticated herbal bitterness, a hint of woodsmoke, and a persistent echo of quinine and bitter roots, making it an exceptional palate cleanser. Serve neat at room temperature, or with a single, large ice cube to slowly release the deeper aromatic oils.
