Sevilen Nativus Öküzgözü Boğazkere 2020
The focus of the Sevilen Nativus range is to highlight the unique characteristics of Turkey’s most significant native grape varieties. Pronounced Oh-cooz-goe-zue, Bow-aahz-keh-reh is an equal blend of Boğazkere (50%) and Öküzgözü (50%) grapes that are similar in style to Tannat or Malbec which are full bodied and strong in tannins. The grapes for this wine were picked by hand and underwent fermentation in stainless-steel tanks at 23-25°C, with ten days’ maceration on the skins. After fermentation, 10% of the wine underwent six months’ ageing in 300-litre, medium toast, French oak barrels. The Öküzgözü brings fleshy berry fruit flavours, whilst the Boğazkere provides tannin and structure, darker fruit flavours and notes of liquorice and black pepper. This is bold, bright and fruit-forward, with a long, harmonious finish.
