Cullen Late Harvest Chenin Blanc 2022
Cullen Wines is a certified biodynamic, carbon neutral and naturally powered estate, with a philosophy summed up in three simple words: ‘Quality, Integrity and Sustainability’. Having celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2021, it is one of the oldest and most awarded family wineries in Western Australia’s famous Margaret River region. First established in 1971 by Dr Kevin and Diana Cullen, the winery has built an outstanding reputation for biodynamic wines that receive great acclaim. To increase the sugar concentration in the almost-ripe grapes, the Chenin Blanc was cane cut before being hand picked. The grapes were pressed and transferred to new oak barrels and a concrete egg. Fermentation was carried out using indigenous yeast. Fermentation came to an early finish two weeks later by chilling, leaving the wine sweet. The wine was filtered and then bottled soon after to preserve freshness. Light lemon in colour the Late Harvest Chenin Blanc opens with aromas of citrus, pear and green mango. The citrus notes continue in the mouth, accompanied by cooked apple and some stone fruits. The finish is elegant and refreshing.
