BIG PEAT Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky - 70cl | 46% ABV
Douglas Laing's Small Batch BIG PEAT Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is what historically the Scotch Whisky industry would refer to as a 'Vatted Malt' - a marriage of malts! Such vatting's often form the heart and soul of a blended scotch whisky (which carries the lighter tasting grain whisky, to soften matters). Big Peat carries a big peaty (often called phenolic), beachy, oceanic, slightly ashy selection of Malts from the island of Islay, including Malts distilled at Ardbeg; Caol Ila; Bowmore and even the now closed Port Ellen distillery. Ally these lusty and robust Malts selected for BIG PEAT with the fact that no chill filtration takes place - more old fashioned traditional approach - and you will detect a massive amplification of the anticipated sea-faring qualities on the nose, palate and finish. Big Peat is fresh, salty and clean on the nose, with notes of sweet malts dried over peat. Typically Islay in flavour, the palate carries notes of ash, sweet tar, smoking chimneys and a subtle salty beach quality, with a long and lingering phenolic finish.
