Bodegas Ondarre Rioja Gran Reserva 2015
Bodegas Ondarre was founded in 1985, with the aim of creating wines which showcase the region’s distinct terroirs. The cooperative winery is situated in the town of Viana which overlooks the Rioja Valley in Rioja Oriental. Since their inception Ondarre has formed trusted relationships with the highest quality growers in the area affording them access to the finest fruit possible. The Gran Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo (90%) and Mazuelo (10%) matured on the lees for 28 months with regular racking. In order to retain maximum concentration, the wine was fined naturally, with a series of successive rackings. Once bottled the wine rested for a further 32 months in bottle prior to its release. As the wine was bottled without tartaric stabilisation, it may leave a deposit in the bottle, so decanting of this wine is recommended. The complex and mature bouquet offers rich fruit aromas, along with hints of spice and notes of raisin fruit, layered with tobacco and leather. Elegant and velvety on the palate, this is classic Gran Reserva Rioja from an excellent vintage that provides outstanding value for money.
