New Hall Vineyards Single Estate Bacchus 2022

New Hall Vineyards has 40 hectares under vine and one of the largest plantings of the Bacchus variety in the UK. Winemaker Piers Greenwood has won the prestigious UK Winemaker of the Year Award in 2013, 2015 and 2016 and his highly acclaimed and award-winning wines showcase English Wine at its best. Bacchus is a grape that needs to be picked before becoming over-ripe to retain its intense and distinctive grapey flavours. The vineyard comprises London clay soils, from the Tertiary age, with chalk concealed below the clay deposits. Each of the eight Bacchus plantings were vinified separately to retain each block’s integrity and characteristics, allowing the winemakers a rich palate of Bacchus fruit to establish the final blend. A small portion of the blend was barrel-fermented in third fill French oak, followed by two months’ ageing in barrel, which added texture to the mouthfeel. A rich and flavoursome quintessentially English Bacchus, displaying complex and aromatic notes of grapefruit, pear, peach, lime layered with herbaceous overtones of nettle and cut grass.

Shipping Costs

Delivery is FREE on all orders over £165.00 to most UK Postcodes. Orders under £165.00 incur a £12.50 delivery charge. Our preferred courier is DPD and they charge us extra to deliver to certain postcodes in the Scottish Highlands & Islands.

If you live in one of these restricted postcode delivery areas the delivery charge is £20 for orders under £165.00. Orders £165 to £249 are subject to a £10 delivery charge. Orders over £250 are delivered FREE. If you are happy to proceed with an order including the stated delivery charges we will raise a separate invoice for the additional cost and email it to you. Find out more on our Delivery Page

Delivery Times

We aim to to have your delivery with you within 5-7 working days of receiving your order, but often it can be much sooner. If you need your order by a certain date please get in touch and we'll do our best to get it to you as required.

Vintage Availability

We endeavour to display accurate and current vintages on all our wines listed on the website; however, from time to time stocks of the vintage listed do become exhausted. If this is the case with your order we will always contact you to recommend another vintage of the same wine, if it is still available. If the vintage of a wine is important to you then please leave a note at checkout advising us of this.

Stock Availability

As we are retail stockists, selling from our Ledston shop as well as online, it makes it difficult for us to show a 'real-time' inventory of our wines and spirits online. As such, very occasionally, a wine may be out of stock that the website has allowed you to order.

To ensure a timely delivery, we are happy to substitute your order with a similar wine of equal or higher value and at no additional cost to you!

If this is not an acceptable solution please advise us in the 'Add A Comment' section at the checkout.

View of New Hall Vineyards in Essex

Piers Greenwood is a bit of a visionary, he planted his vineyard in Purleigh, Essex in 1969, which makes it one of the oldest in the UK. The vineyard benefits from a very special microclimate and Purleigh is one of the warmest and sunniest spots in the country. Today New...

The Region Great Britain

Winemaking in Great Britain can be traced back to Roman times, when every important villa had a garden of vines. However, a succession of winemakers through the ages have struggled to make successful wines in such a marginal climate and commercial winemaking was almost non-existent until Hambledon was established in...

Organic Vines in Vineyard

It is estimated that there are more than 10,000 grape varieties in present commercial production, yet this probably includes the same grapes under other names. With the increase of DNA fingerprinting it is thought that the real number might come down closer to 5,000. Many varieties of grape are known...

The best English white wine

We have bought this wine before and always go back to it. A friend sent me 6 bottles during the fist lockdown, and it was so full bodied and featured light notes of fruit that we have been hooked on it since. Brilliant

Hal's Hic Bacchus 2019

Fabulous - repeat order. The age gives it just a bit of maturity whereas I would normally drink this grape of '20 or '21 vintage with a slightly different freshness.
