Yotes Court 'On The Nod' Bacchus 2021
The Bacchus grape is a cross between Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner-Riesling and has a taste reminiscent of a good-quality Sauvignon Blanc. In the UK it is unusual to plant vines at 140m above sea level but the Yotes Court top blocks are warm, sunny and sheltered. In an area that had once been a successful apricot orchard the team planted Bacchus vines in 2018 on the assumption that if you can ripen an apricot you can ripen a grape! The Yotes Court 'On The Nod' Bacchus has a floral nose of gooseberry, cassis bud and green pineapple, yielding to a zesty citrus intensity on the palate, with elegant notes of pink grapefruit coming to the fore. The acidity is fully integrated and perfectly balanced, giving a zingy yet refined wine, with medium weight in the mouth and a refreshing finish. Bacchus is particularly well suited to spring vegetables like asparagus, goats cheese, shellfish and poached or grilled salmon. The name 'On The Nod' refers to the finish of a race. A race won ‘on the nod’ is thrilling to watch and is so close it is often decided by a photo of the finish.
