M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses 2019
M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses is made from 100% Syrah grown in the Northern Rhône wine region of France. Cote-Rotie, which translates to 'roasted slope' in English, is a reference to the long sunshine hours the slopes of this appellation receive giving the grapes considerable power and elegance. At the winery indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation, allowing the terroirs to express themselves from this key stage in the winemaking process. Ageing lasts 14-16 months with 80% of the wine aged in oak barrels with a majority being new wood. The remaining 20% is aged in stainless steel vats which helps to preserve the purity of the fruit and the floral notes, which are a distinctive feature of great Côte-Rôtie wines. The nose is full of raspberry with hints of violet, rosemary, spices and a touch of black olive. The palate is unctuous with a woody, spicy and vanilla finish.
