Masi Amarone Classico Riserva di Costasera 2015
Majestic, complex and exuberant, this special cru of Costasera (the finest terroir for Amarone in Valpolicella Classico) is a benchmark for Amarone, which complements Barolo and Brunello as the aristocracy of the Italian wine world. Using Masi's unrivalled expertise in the appassimento method Valpolicella Classico’s indigenous grapes (Corvina and Rondinella) are blended with the rediscovered Oseleta grape before undergoing maturation in a combination of Slovenian and Allier oak for up to 40 months followed by a further 6 months in bottle. Thick, deep, ruby red in colour. Elegant and intense aromas of ripe berry fruit, and fruit preserved in spirit accompanied by delicate hints of cocoa and cinnamon. Firm and full bodied structure on the palate, with silky tannins, smooth alcohol and a refreshing acidity to give balance and measure. Very long on the finish with tastes of marasca cherries and cinnamon. Riserva di Costasera can age for 30-35 years.
