Wine & Soul Quinta da Manoella Vinhas Velhas 2014

Wine & Soul team, Jorge and Sandra, inherited the fabulous Quinta da Manoella estate complete with very old vineyards in 2009. Quinta da Manoella Vinhas Velhas was the first wine produced from the 'youngest' estate and quickly became one of the best and most remarkable wines in the Douro.

Quinta da Manoella Vinhas Velhas is a field blend of more than 30 indigenous grape varieties sourced from a vineyard that is over 100+ years old. Grapes are foot trodden in granite lagares and malolactic fermentation together with ageing takes place in French oak barriques (90% new) for 20 months.

The wine is full-bodied and deeply concentrated, with a spicy and floral aroma, flavours of blackberry and dark chocolate. Ripe, round and balanced with a notable acidity, firm tannins and a long finish.

Organic Vines in Vineyard

It is estimated that there are more than 10,000 grape varieties in present commercial production, yet this probably includes the same grapes under other names. With the increase of DNA fingerprinting it is thought that the real number might come down closer to 5,000.
