Spain | Ebro River Valley

The Ebro River is the silent architect of Northern Spain’s most prestigious viticultural landscape. As it snakes eastward from the Cantabrian Mountains toward the Mediterranean, it carves out a diverse corridor of terroirs that define the pinnacle of Spanish wine. This is the Upper Ebro, a macro-region that acts as the spiritual and structural umbrella for some of the world’s most iconic appellations.
To understand the Ebro is to understand a collection of legends. At its heart lies DOCa Rioja, Spain’s first qualified denomination and the benchmark for Tempranillo. Bordering it to the northeast is DO Navarra, a region famed for its vibrant Garnacha Rosados and increasingly sophisticated international blends. As the river flows further east into the arid plains of Aragon, it gives life to the high-altitude, old-vine Garnacha strongholds of DO Campo de Borja, DO Calatayud, and the historical heart of DO Cariñena.
Within the valley’s influence, we find a fascinating battle between elements. In the west, the cool, Atlantic breezes moderate the heat, providing the elegance and acidity found in Rioja Alta. As you move east, the Mediterranean influence takes hold, ripening the fruit to the concentrated, explosive power seen in DO Somontano and the Aragonese plains.
Our Ebro River Valley collection is a celebration of this diversity. We focus on the thread of quality that runs through the entire basin - from the traditional, oak-aged Reservas of the Rioja heartland to the modern, terroir-driven Garnachas that are leading the Spanish wine renaissance.
