Argentina | Mendoza
Located in the Cuyo region, Mendoza is by far the largest and most important wine-growing province in Argentina. Located on a high-altitude plateau at the edge of the Andes Mountains, the province is responsible for roughly 70% of the country's wine production.
The province's signature grape variety is Malbec, producing red wines of great concentration and intensity. In addition to Malbec the Mendoza vineyards are a haven to a number of old-world grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo, Bonarda, Sangiovese, Barbera, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc.
A large number of wineries as well as some of the country's oldest vineyards are clustered in the northern part of the province, south of Mendoza City. Here, the wine regions of Luján de Cuyo, Maipú and the Uco Valley are home to some of the finest producers and wineries in Argentina.
